彫刻家の岩江圭祐さんと日本画家の新埜康平さんの二人展です。

岩江圭祐さんは、梱包材として使用される発泡スチロール製の緩衝材を鉄板で囲い、溶接によって密封する作品を制作しています。実用素材である緩衝材は、彼の手によって金属という堅牢な素材と結びつけられ、機能を超えた独自の存在感を放つ造形物として立ち現れます。無機質で重厚な鉄と、軽量で日常的な発泡スチロールという対照的な素材の組み合わせは、物質的・視覚的な「距離」を浮かび上がらせると同時に、鑑賞者の先入観とのズレを意識させます。
新埜康平さんは、岩絵具、膠、金属箔というような日本画の伝統的な技法を基盤としながら、ストリートカルチャーの感覚やモチーフを取り入れた作品を展開しています。繊細な筆致と自由な発想を融合させることで、時代やジャンルを横断する、しなやかで現代的な表現を生み出しています。伝統と現代の文化を自在に行き来する彼の表現は、文化的・時間的な「距離感」を軽やかに乗り越え、新たな視点を提示します。

金属という素材と掛け合わされることで生まれる新たな魅力を探求し、彫刻作品を制作する。梱包資材である発泡スチロール緩衝材の独特な構造と、商品と箱の隙間を埋めるためだけに作られた健気さに魅せられ、板金という金属加工技術でその造形をかたどった。

膠や和紙、箔、胡粉、顔料などの伝統技法を用い、ストリートカルチャーや映画の影響を受けた人物や情景を描く。余白やタギングを取り入れ、日本画と現代カルチャーの融合を探っている。銀や銅などの素材は、光や時間とともに変化し、その瞬間を鑑賞者と共有する作品を目指している。

IWAE Keisuke・ARANO Kohei “Distance”

This is a two-person exhibition by sculptor IWAE Keisuke and Nihonga painter ARANO Kohei.

IWAE Keisuke creates works by enclosing polystyrene cushioning material—commonly used for packaging—in steel plates and sealing them through welding. Through his process, this utilitarian material is transformed, its function transcended as it emerges as a sculptural presence imbued with a unique sense of being. The striking contrast between the cold, weighty steel and the light, everyday polystyrene reveals a physical and visual “distance,” prompting viewers to confront their own preconceptions.
ARANO Kohei, meanwhile, bases his work on traditional Nihonga techniques using mineral pigments, animal glue, and metal leaf. At the same time, he integrates the sensibilities and motifs of street culture. By fusing delicate brushwork with imaginative freedom, he creates supple, contemporary expressions that transcend eras and genres. His ability to seamlessly navigate between the traditional and the modern offers fresh perspectives, gently dissolving cultural and temporal distances.

IWAE Keisuke
I create sculptural works that explore the new allure that emerges when everyday materials are combined with metal. Drawn to the distinctive forms of polystyrene cushioning—commonly used as packaging material—and the quiet earnestness of an object made solely to fill the space between a product and its box, I recreate their shapes through sheet metal techniques. Through this process, I seek to transform the humble into something enduring.

ARANO Kohei
Using traditional Japanese painting techniques—such as animal glue, washi paper, metal leaf, shell white, and pigments—I depict figures and scenes inspired by street culture and film. By incorporating elements like empty space and tagging, I explore the fusion of Nihonga and contemporary culture. Working with materials such as silver and copper, which change over time and with light, I aim to create works that capture and share those transient moments with the viewer.

人間の行動原理やノスタルジアから着想し、彫刻作品やオリジナルプロダクトを制作。

新埜康平
東京生まれ。
東京を拠点に活動し、展覧会などを中心に参加している。
ストリートカルチャーや映画の影響を受け、仮名の人物や情景、日々の生活に根差した等身大のイメージをモチーフに制作。余白やタギング(文字)の画面構成等、様々な絵画的要素を取り入れ、日本画×ストリートをテーマに制作。

IWAE Keisuke
Completed the Master’s Program in the Department of Crafts at Tama Art University.
Inspired by human behavioral principles and nostalgia, he creates sculptural works and original products that reflect these themes.

ARANO Kohei
Born in Tokyo, currently based in Tokyo and actively participates in exhibitions and related projects.
Influenced by street culture and film, he creates works depicting fictional characters, scenes, and life-sized imagery rooted in everyday life. Incorporating elements such as negative space and tagging (text-based graffiti), he explores the fusion of Nihonga (traditional Japanese painting) and street aesthetics as a central theme in his practice.
