山口県を拠点に活動している木工作家の牧由加里さんの水犀では2回目の個展です。自然と変わっていくもの、あえて変えていくものを模索した2年。手に取ってもらいたいという思いから生まれた作品の形状や質感は、直線に見える部分にも緩やかなカーブやふくらみがあります。大きな作品もしっとりとした光沢があり、思わず撫でたくなるような曲線を描いています。ノミとカンナで木の塊から削り出し、漆で仕上げた牧さんの今のカタチをぜひ手でも確かめてください。

This is the second solo exhibition at Mizusai by Yamaguchi Prefecture-based woodworker MAKI Yukari. For two years, she has been exploring what changes naturally and what she dares to change. The shapes and textures of her works, born from her desire to have people hold them in their hands, have gentle curves and bulges even in areas that appear straight. The large pieces also have a moist luster and curves that make you want to caress them. We invite you to see Maki’s current forms, which are carved from a block of wood with a chisel and a planer and finished with lacquer, with your own hands.
