2022.5.28 sat – 6.5 sunの期間で予定していた西石垣友里子展のギャラリーでの展示は都合により中止となりました。
web exhibitionという形で作品の販売をおこないます。

沖縄を拠点に活動している木工作家の西石垣友里子さん。相思樹やガジュマルなど沖縄の木で作品制作をしています。樹皮や割れ、虫食いも木の表情として残しながら、ノミ跡を生かしたのびやかなゆらぎのある形が魅力です。今回は掌に心地よく収まる形の作品を中心に制作してくれました。

「お水を掬う時の掌は決して丸くない」
とある方からこの言葉を頂いたときすとんと腑に落ちたのでした。
ここ数年、心惹かれるのは禍々しさと表裏一体にある美しさであったり、
歪な揺らぎであったり。掌で水を掬うイメージをしながらご覧ください。

NISHIISHIGAKI Yuriko’s exhibition at the gallery scheduled for May 28, 2022 (sat) – June 5, 2022 (sun) has been canceled.

NISHIISHIGAKI Yuriko is a woodworker based in Okinawa. She creates her works using Okinawan trees such as Soshiki and Banyan. The bark, splits, and insect bites are left as the expression of the wood, and the flexible and shimmering shapes that make use of the chisel marks are appealing. For this exhibition, she mainly created works that fit comfortably in the palm of the hand.

When you scoop up water, your palm is never round.
I was struck by these words when I heard them from a certain person.
In the past few years, I have been fascinated by the beauty that is inextricably linked to the disasters and the or the distorted shimmering. Please look at the works while imagining that you are scooping up water with your palms.
