画家スヤママサルによる個展「Excuse me, Where am I going?」。
スヤマは愛知県を拠点に活動する、独学で絵を学んだアーティストです。大学では工学を専攻していましたが、在学中にアートに魅了され、漫画家を志して創作活動をスタート。現在はミクストメディアの画家として、東京やアメリカを中心に作品を発表しています。
彼の作品は、日常を独自の視点でとらえ、ユーモアとシュールさを併せ持った表現が魅力です。その中には、不思議とやさしさや可愛らしさもにじみ出ています。スヤママサルの世界観を、どうぞお楽しみください。

私の作品には、何気なく描かれている人物たちがいて、彼らは何か得体の知れないことをしています。見る人は、なぜ彼らがそんなことをしているのか理解できないでしょう。そして、少しばかりユーモラスで、少しばかり残酷な感覚も抱くでしょう。私には、現実の人びとの営みが、私の作品のようにどこか不可解で滑稽なものとして映り、それが漫画家時代からの一貫したテーマなのです。

Solo Exhibition by Painter Masaru Suyama: “Excuse me, Where am I going?”
Masaru Suyama is a self-taught artist based in Aichi Prefecture. While majoring in engineering at university, he became captivated by art and began his creative journey with the goal of becoming a manga artist. Today, he works as a mixed-media painter, presenting his work in Tokyo, the United States, and beyond. Suyama’s art is marked by a unique perspective on everyday life, combining surrealism and humor. Within his work, a subtle sense of gentleness and charm naturally emerges. We invite you to experience the distinctive world of Masaru Suyama.

There are random figures in my painting and they are doing something unknown. Viewers will not be able to know why they are doing such a thing. And viewers will be also left with the feeing of a little humor and a little cruel. Lives of real people appear somehow mysterious and comical to me, just like my works. And this has been a consistent theme since my days as a manga artist.
