涙ガラス制作所として活動しているガラス作家の松本裕子さんの個展を開催します。
水犀での今回の展示はオブジェを中心に器、鋳型をつかった指輪などが並びます。松本さんならでは、静かな世界観をお楽しみください。

「薄膜」と名付けた和紙のように薄い硝子をつくったのは昨年2020年、麻布台にあるギャラリーSUで春に開催予定の個展が新型コロナウイルス感染症により延期となった夏の展示に向けてのことだった。延期になった春頃はまだ未知の部分が多かった新型ウイルス、海外から流れてくる衝撃的な映像の数々に不安と恐怖が募り、街から人が消えた。夏も近くなると第一次ピークも終わりソーシャルディスタンス、接触を避け一定の距離をとる生活スタイルを模索し始めた。あちこちに張り巡らされた飛沫防止用ビニールシート、個々がまるで薄い膜の内側にいるような毎日。その中で「薄膜」はうまれた。

制作技法はパートドヴェールをベースにしている。まず原型をスタイロフォーム (発泡材)と油土でつくり、それを石膏で型取る。立体は反転し凹は凸に凸は凹、外は内になる。次に透明な硝子を細かく砕きサラサラとした砂状にしたものにCMC(細胞膜複合体)と水を混ぜペースト状にし、石膏型の外なる内に筆で薄く塗り広げる。 ペースト状の硝子を練るのにシャーレを愛用している。シャーレからすくったペースト状の硝子を塗る、硝子の膜で石膏の内側が埋まっていく。いくつもいくつもつくっていると細胞膜をつくる実験を繰り返しているような気分になる。 内側に硝子の膜ができた石膏型を電気炉で高温に熱し硝子を溶かす。熱した石膏型と硝子はゆっくり24時間かけもう少しかけて温度を下げ、手で触れる温度になったら電気炉から出し石膏型を割り硝子を取り出す。その後削ったり磨いたり表面を整え完成。

今回の展示はーPolyphonyーポリフォニーと題し「薄膜」の手法の多様性を考えてみた。 飾るもの、鳴らすもの、使うもの。3種3様に奏でる異なった旋律が水犀の舞台で美しく響き合うよう願っています。

We are pleased to present a solo exhibition by glass artist Yuko Matsumoto, who works as Namida Glass Studio.
The exhibition at MIZUSAI will feature objects, vessels, and cast rings. We hope you enjoy the quiet worldview that only Ms. Matsumoto can create.

Japanese paper named “Thin Film”. In the spring when the exhibition was postponed, the new virus was still largely unknown, and the many shocking images coming from overseas caused anxiety and fear, and people disappeared from the streets. As summer approached, the first peak of the epidemic was over and people began to seek a social distance, a way of life where they avoided contact and kept a certain distance. Every day it was as if each individual was inside a thin membrane, with splash-proof plastic sheets stretched everywhere. This is where “Thin Film” was born.

The production technique is based on pâte de verre. First, a prototype is made from styrofoam and oil clay, which is then molded in plaster. The body is inverted, concave becomes convex, convex becomes concave, and outside becomes inside. Next, clear glass is crushed into a fine sand-like substance, mixed with CMC (cell membrane complex) and water to form a paste, and spread thinly on the inside and outside of the plaster mold with a brush. I use a petri dish to knead the paste-like glass. I scoop out the glass paste from the petri dish and apply it, filling the inside of the plaster with a film of glass. I feel like I’m repeating an experiment to make cell membranes when I make many of them. The plaster mold with the glass film on the inside is heated to a high temperature in an electric furnace to melt the glass. The temperature of the heated plaster mold and glass is slowly lowered for 24 hours or a little longer, and when it reaches a temperature that can be touched by hand, it is removed from the furnace and the plaster mold is broken and the glass is taken out. The glass is then shaved, polished, and the surface is finished.

This exhibition was titled “Polyphony,” and I tried to consider the diversity of thin film techniques. I hope that the different melodies played by the three types of glass will resonate beautifully on the stage of Suisai.

松本裕子 （まつもと ゆうこ）
日本大学藝術学部でグラフィックデザインを学び、卒業後時計会社で時計のデザインに従事。
2000年より吹きガラスを始める。
2011年渡豪、ランプワークによる作品を制作。
2015年に帰国し、現在は東京でランプワークで装身具を、パート・ド・ヴェールでオブジェを制作・発表している。

MATSUMOTO Yuko
After graduating from Nihon University College of Art with a degree in graphic design, he worked for a watch company designing watches.
Started glass blowing in 2000.
Moved to Australia in 2011 to create lampwork works.
Returned to Japan in 2015, and currently lives in Tokyo, where he creates and presents trinkets using lampwork and objects using part de verre.
