金沢近郊にアトリエを構え活動するセラミックアーティストの水元かよこさん。加賀友禅の工房において彩色を、九谷焼の窯元にて絵付けを学んだ経験を背景に、日本の伝統的な技法や文様、精神性を礎としながら、現代的な感覚と物語性を織り交ぜた独自の表現を展開しています。
作品には、日常の奥底に潜む不確かで繊細な感情や、人間の内面にあるかすかな翳りへのまなざしが宿っています。観るものそれぞれの内面に静かに触れ、記憶や感情と向き合う時間をもたらします。

午前3時。深い闇と幻想が静かに交錯する時間。
慌ただしい日常からひととき離れ、子どもの頃の感覚に立ち返りながら、鑑賞者それぞれの内側にある物語が、ゆっくりと紡がれていくことを願い制作しています。
笑い合うような明るさもまた魅力的ですが、人の内に潜むほの暗い側面に触れたとき、ふと特別なつながりが生まれる瞬間があります。その感覚を辿っていくと、やがて親しみや癒やしへと繋がっていく。光と闇は対立するものではなく、グラデーションとして連なり、循環しているもののように感じています。 ポップとダークが揺らめくリズム。白と黒を明確に分けるのではなく、そのあわいにある曖昧な揺らぎを楽しむ感覚は、日本的な美意識のひとつかもしれません。
私の陶芸は、シュルレアリスムやデペイズマンの感覚、日本の伝統的な技法や文様、そして精神性が交差する中で形づくられます。そして最終的には、窯の中で起こる偶然性を孕んだ化学反応によって、作品は完成へと導かれます。

MIZUMOTO Kayoko is a ceramic artist based in the Kanazawa area. Drawing on her experience in color application at a Kaga Yuzen workshop and painting techniques at a Kutani ware kiln, she builds upon the foundations of traditional Japanese methods, motifs, and spirituality, while developing a unique expression that interweaves a contemporary sensibility with a strong sense of narrative.
Her works embody a quiet sensitivity to the uncertain and delicate emotions that lie beneath everyday life, as well as a subtle awareness of the faint shadows within the human psyche. Each piece gently resonates with the viewer’s inner world, offering a moment to reflect on personal memories and emotions.

3 a.m.—a time when deep darkness and quiet fantasy gently intersect.
Through my work, I hope to offer a moment away from the rush of daily life, allowing viewers to return to a childlike sensibility, where the stories within each of them can slowly begin to unfold.
While brightness and shared laughter are certainly captivating, there are moments when encountering the subtle darkness within us creates an unexpected, special connection. Tracing that sensation can eventually lead to a feeling of familiarity and healing. I see light and darkness not as opposing forces, but as part of a continuous gradient—interconnected and ever-circulating.
A rhythm where pop and dark gently waver. Rather than clearly separating black and white, there is a sensibility in embracing the ambiguous space between them—perhaps one expression of a distinctly Japanese aesthetic.
My ceramics take shape at the intersection of Surrealism and dépaysement, together with traditional Japanese techniques, motifs, and spirituality. Ultimately, each piece is brought to completion through the element of chance—the chemical reactions that occur within the kiln.
