京都府亀岡に工房を持ち陶芸家として活動している明主航さんの匣だけの個展を開催します。古代ローマ時代の漆喰の箱にインスピレーションを受け制作した匣が水犀に並びました。
制作の度、土、ガラス成分、鉱石やワラ、金属類などをを調合して粘土を作り、型を使い制作しています。そのため同じ質感のものは一つもありません。どれもドライな質感ながら、バリエーション豊かな表情を見せています。静かに佇む姿が美しい匣たち。それぞれの見立てでこの匣を楽しんでいただければと思います。


ローマ時代の漆喰箱の写しに取り組んだことをきっかけに、箱を作り始めた。
おそらく、当時は白く整った形だっただろう漆喰箱は、風化し色褪せながらもなんとか形を保っていた。
僕はその漆喰箱から、儚さや時の重なりを感じ、惹きつけられ、気持ちが昂った事を今でも鮮明に覚えている。
自分の体感した感覚にどこまで近づけられるのか、探し続けています。

We are pleased to present a solo exhibition of only boxes by MYOSYU Wataru, a ceramic artist with a studio in Kameoka, Kyoto. Inspired by ancient Roman plaster boxes, he has created a series of boxes at Mizusai.
Each time he creates his works, he mixes clay, glass, ores, straw, and metals to make clay, and uses molds to create his works. Therefore, no two pieces have the same texture. Each piece has a dry texture, yet shows a rich variety of expressions. These boxes are beautiful in their quiet appearance. We hope you will enjoy these boxes in your own way.


He began making boxes after working on a copy of a Roman plaster box.
The plaster box, which was probably white and well-shaped at the time, managed to retain its shape while weathering and fading.
I still vividly remember feeling the fragility and the layers of time in the plaster box, being attracted to it, and feeling excited by it.
I continue to search for how close I can get to the sensations I experienced.
