佐藤尚理さんは、彫刻を出発点に、現在は沖縄を拠点として、陶を中心に制作する造形作家です。
植物や動物、幾何学的な形や文様など、身の回りのさまざまなものから得たイメージを、写実的に表現するのではなく、独自の形や線へと置き換え、自由に組み合わせながら作品を生み出しています。
土を成形し、描き、削り、化粧土を施し、焼成する。幾つもの工程を重ねることで生まれる作品の表面には、色や文様だけでなく、手を動かした跡や焼成による変化など、制作の過程と、そこに積み重ねられた時間や経験が痕跡として残されています。
自由な造形と豊かな文様が重なり合うことで生まれる、楽しくおおらかな佐藤さんの作品を、ぜひお楽しみください。

SATO Naomichi is an artist based in Okinawa who began his practice with sculpture and now works primarily in ceramics.
His works incorporate images drawn from the world around him—plants, animals, geometric forms, and patterns. Rather than depicting these subjects realistically, he transforms them into his own distinctive forms and lines, freely combining them to create his works.
The process begins with shaping the clay, followed by drawing, carving, applying slip, and firing. Through these many stages, the surfaces of his works retain not only their colors and patterns, but also traces of the making process itself—marks left by the artist’s hands, changes brought about by firing, and the accumulated time and experience embodied in the work.
The free forms and rich patterns overlap and come together to create Sato’s joyful and generous works. We invite you to enjoy the unique world of his creations.

profile

1974年　長野に生れる
1996年　沖縄へ移住。沖縄県立芸術大学美術学部彫刻科卒業。
2000年　彫刻家として活動を始める。
2008年　ドイツミュンヘン美術大学に研究生として留学。
スペイン巡礼の徒歩旅行などドイツを拠点にヨーロッパを巡る。
2009年　帰国後陶芸をはじめる。
2012年　器bonohoオープン。
2013年　個展やグループ展・イベントなどで作品の発表をはじめる。

1974　Born in Nagano, Japan.
1996　Moved to Okinawa and graduated from the Department of Sculpture, Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts.
2000　Began working as a sculptor.
2008　Studied as a research student at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich, Germany. Traveled throughout Europe based in Germany, including a pilgrimage on foot along the Camino de Santiago in Spain.
2009　Returned to Japan and began working in ceramics.
2012　Opened utsuwa bonoho, a gallery and café in Okinawa.
2013　Began presenting his work through solo and group exhibitions, events, and other projects.
