1986年から2010年までニューヨークを拠点に活動。現在は神奈川県にアトリエを移し、作品をグローバルに発表している武田哲さんの個展です。 今回は、ペインティング、ドローイングと浜辺で出会った漂流物を使ったオブジェを展示しています。
平面作品は、作家自身が見たいと思う世界をデフォルメして抽象的に表現しています。立体作品は浜辺の漂流物と出会った瞬間に浮かんだインスピレーションを形にしています。作品の中には必ず人物が存在していますが、その人物は主観的にも客観的にも見えます。見る人によってさまざまな物語が湧き出てくる楽しい作品です。

いつも気が付けば誰もいない海にいる。
居心地の悪さを紛らわす為にではなく、純粋な欲望に従ってここに来る。
そして偶然が偶然を呼んだものに偶然出くわす。
そこにはアイディアはなくインスピレーションがあるだけ。
それは美しく純粋でしかない。
遭遇する景色やモノや出来事をただ純粋に受け止めてそしてそれらをつなぎ合わせる事で今を映し出したい。
何も思いを挟まず、今を集積させる事で見えてくる新しい時代の風景を見てみたい。

TAKEDA Tetsu Solo exhibition “The Great Gig On The Beach”

He was based in New York from 1986 to 2010. This is a solo exhibition by Tetsu Takeda, who has now moved his studio to Kanagawa Prefecture and is exhibiting his works globally. This exhibition features paintings, drawings, and objects made from driftwood he encountered on the beach.
The two-dimensional works are deformed and abstract representations of the world the artist himself would like to see. The three-dimensional works are the result of the inspiration that came to him the moment he encountered drifting objects on the beach. There is always a person present in the work, but the person can be seen either subjectively or objectively. It is an enjoyable work of art that brings forth a variety of stories depending on the viewer.

Alway find myself standing on the empty beach. Not intended for numbing awkwardness but simply following my pure desire to be there, and accidentally find random objects that are just happened to be there at that specific moment by chance. Therefore no place for idea of any kind exist in my mind at all. There is just inspiration as is. It is the most genuine insight of all. I like to accept the obscurity of the objects, the landscape, the occurrence I personally encounter as simply is and by binding them together to allow for them to project certain images of the human condition at the present moment. Through integration of flotsam without intent, I hope to feel the breath of the new landscape.
