TAKEUCHI Shingo

A solo exhibition by TAKEUCHI Shingo, a ceramic artist in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture.

Mr. Takeuchi’s works are attractive for their dynamic shapes and fired texture. This exhibition is the first of its kind in Japan. The bowls and drinking cups made from the original clay are also attractive for their powerful shapes and rough texture. The technique was arrived at through a series of experiments with the desire to bring out the texture from the clay. Even today, he continues to work vigorously with an inquiring mind and curiosity. The overwhelming presence of the beauty of the form and texture, yet the calm appearance, is something only Mr. Takeuchi, who has been working with clay for 40 years, can give.

When creating a piece of work, he makes a maquette out of a lump of clay, draws lines with a spatula, and confirms the intricately intersecting connections.

In contrast to his sharp style, Mr. Takeuchi himself is very warm and well-liked by people of all ages and nationalities. While teaching ceramic techniques to the younger generation, in recent years he has also been devoting himself to overseas exhibitions and workshops, gaining popularity especially in Europe and the United States.

“Everything in our lives comes from nature, and if we continue to pursue what we want while paying respect to it, it will eventually have a positive effect on our work. TAKEUCHI Shingo
