19世紀末〜20世紀初め/ロシア帝国〜ソ連 ニジニノブゴロド・ゴロジェッツ< br>こちらはロシア語でPrialka、英語ではDistaffと言われる糸を紡ぐ際に使われた民具の一部分。
表の絵画はロシア正教が弾圧を受けていた際にイコン(ロシア正教の宗教画)を隠れて製作するという目的から始まり、様式やモチーフを変えて冠婚葬祭の飾りなどとして現代まで受け継がれてきたロシア伝統工芸のひとつで、"ゴロジェッツ"というのはこの板絵を製作していたロシアの町の名前からとられています。
(日本で言うところの輪島塗の様な呼び名だと思って頂ければ分かりやすいかと思います。)
主に19世紀末から20世紀初めのものを扱っていますが、その頃には宗教画としての意味合いは薄れ、純粋なる民画でありながらも、ある一定の様式を持った独特な絵画が妙に趣き深く、私もここ最近では特に仕入れに力をいれている古道具です。

This is a piece of folk equipment used for spinning yarn, called Prialka in Russian and Distaff in English.
The painting on the front is one of the traditional Russian handicrafts, which started when the Russian Orthodox Church was suppressed and the purpose was to make icons (Russian Orthodox religious paintings) in hiding, and has been handed down to the present day as decorations for weddings, funerals, and other occasions with different styles and motifs. The name "Gorodets" is taken from the name of the town in Russia where these paintings were made.
(It would be easier to understand if you think of it as a name similar to Wajima-nuri in Japan.)

I have been dealing mainly with items from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, when the meaning of religious painting had faded away and the paintings were purely folk paintings with a certain style.
