Antiques Haiiro Ookami & Flowers Nishibeppu sho-ten exhibition “輪 circle”
2021.3.27 sat 〜 4.4 sun

This is the third exhibition of the Antiques Haiiro Ookami & Flowers Nishibeppu sho-ten. Ms. Sato’s collection of old Russian tools, such as paintings on boards from the Gorochets region and milk jars that can be used as flower vases, and Mr. Nishibeppu’s plant works based on the theme of “circle” were displayed in the mizusai space. Please take a look at the “輪 Circle ” that can only be created by two people.
“輪 circle” Haiiro Ookami & Nishibeppu sho-ten exhibition

Circle is one of the forms that emerge naturally when I work with plants.
When I thought about this exhibit, what came out of me was also a “circle”.

Flowers “Nishibeppu sho-ten” Hisayuki Nishibeppu

Since March of last year, I have not been able to stock up in Russia.
Before this situation, I thought I had grown a little tired of Russian antiques, and even considered starting anew with another country.
But with their absence, I realized how fond I am of them.

When asked what is so good, it’s hard to say in one word.
I think the charm lies in the nature of Russian antiques, which is the opposite of elaborate Japanese craftsmanship.
Russian antiques seem to be created with a comparatively relaxed attitude that reflect the craftsman’s big-hearted nature.
(Of course, this does not apply to the field of icons, religious art, or anything with established antiquarian value.)

This feeling greatly influences how we create our pieces and how I approach interior design; it encourages us to value our personal desires to imagine and create over mere facades and formalities.
Currently, I acquire antiques through e-mail exchanges with buyers. I can’t go to Russia and choose with my own eyes.
This has allowed in more folksy boldness and actually enhanced the charm of our selection in this exhibit.

We hope you will enjoy Nishibeppu’s botanical works and my Russian antiques: two “circles” linked like a chain.

Antiques “Haiiro Ookami” Katsuya Sato

The artist will be in the gallery on March 27, 28 and April 4.
The gallery will be open until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 4, the last day of the exhibition.
