佐古 馨 | 木工
2021.6.19 sat – 6.27 sun

鉄や石、木などさまざまな素材を使い、造形的な作品を発表し続けている奈良在住の佐古馨さんの企画展を開催します。
今回は木の瘤や朽ちた表情、罅（ひび）などを活かした、花器や大皿などの器が中心の展示となります。生木を旋盤で挽き、その後乾燥させることによって生まれる揺らぎを生かし、漆、焼き、染め、燻などの様々な技法で作品を仕上げています。
それぞれの木の持つ表情を見極める確かな目から生まれる作品には、佐古さんにしか作れない力強さと絶妙な美意識を感じます。ぜひお楽しみください。

木の表情は樹種により違います。瘤や朽ちかけた状態によっても様々な表情が見えます。

SAKO Kaoru wood work exhibition
2021 6/19 sat – 6/27 sun

This is a special exhibition by Nara-based artist Kaoru Sako, who has been creating figurative works using a variety of materials including iron, stone and wood.
The exhibition will focus on vases, platters, and other vessels that make use of the wood’s mass, decayed appearance, and cracks.
Beautiful distortions are created by grinding the wood on a lathe and then letting it dry. I use various techniques such as lacquering, burning with a banner, dyeing, and smoking to create my works.
In this exhibition, I would like to introduce you to the work of Mr. Sako. We hope you enjoy them.

The expression of the wood varies depending on the species. You can see various expressions depending on the mass or decayed state of the tree. Please enjoy it.

佐古 馨 （さこ かおる）
958年　大阪府生まれ
1982年　近畿大学農学部卒
2年間の石垣島生活を経て美術に目覚め、絵画・版画・彫刻の制作を始める。ニューヨークで個展も。
2005年　I.M.A.（imagination material accident）の工房名で家具・木の器の製作も開始。現在も立体造形作家、木工作家として関西を中心に活動している。

SAKO Kaoru
1958 Born in Osaka, Japan
1982 Graduated from Kinki University, Faculty of Agriculture
After living on Ishigaki Island for two years, he became interested in art and began creating paintings, prints, and sculptures. Also had a solo exhibition in New York.
2005 Started making furniture and wooden vessels under the name of I.M.A. (imagination material accident). He is still active as a sculptor and woodworker mainly in the Kansai area.
