3月に開催予定だった竹内真吾さんの個展は会期を延長することになったため、今回、作品の一部をスペシャル企画という形でご紹介します。

竹内さんは愛知県瀬戸市で作陶しています。躍動的な造形と焼き締めた風合いが魅力。紐作りで作られた造形的な作品ですが、どの作品も”用”を意識した口が作られています。また、原土を繰り抜いて作られた碗やぐい呑も力強い形と荒々しい風合いが魅力的です。土からきている質感を出したいという思いから、実験を重ね辿り着いた技法。現在も尚、探究心と好奇心を持って精力的に制作に取り組まれています。造形美と質感による圧倒的な存在感がありながら、落ち着いた佇まいは40年土と向かい合ってきた竹内さんならではのものです。

竹内さんご本人は、シャープな作風とは対照的に、とてもあたたかく、年代、国籍を問わず多くの方から慕われています。若い世代に陶芸技術を教えながら、近年は海外での個展やワークショップなどにも力を注ぎ、特に欧米で人気を博しています。

竹内さんの個展「edge」は、2021年5月15日（土）から23日（日）を予定しています。炻器の作品は大きめのものから、皿、湯呑みまで、また、繰り抜きの碗やぐい呑も並びます。状況が許せば、スライドレクチャーも予定しています。制作過程や、海外でのワークショップの様子など、写真を見ながら色々なお話が聞けます。どうぞ、お楽しみに。

As Mr. Shingo Takeuchi’s individual exhibition that was scheduled to be held in March has been postponed, some of the works will be introduced as a web exhibition online.

Mr. Takeuchi makes pottery in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture.The charm of his works come from the dynamic formations and texture that comes from firing at high temperatures. He creates figurative works by piling up strings, with each work having openings that are made to be practical and easy-to-use. In addition, the bowls and cups that have been made by hollowing out the raw soil have a strong shape and rough-looking texture that gives them a certain charm. It’s a technique that has been honed through repeating experiments to realize a texture that shows the earth it has come from. Even now, with his sense of inquisition and curiosity, he puts all his energy into his works.While his works have a distinct, overwhelming presence born from the beauty of their form and texture, they also have a somewhat subdued appearance, which is unique to Mr. Takeuchi, who has worked with materials from the earth for 40 years.

In contrast to the sharp manner of his works, Mr. Takeuchi himself has a very warm manner and is liked by many people regardless of age or nationality. While teaching the young generation about ceramic techniques, he has recently put his efforts into holding individual exhibitions and workshops abroad, enjoying particular popularity in Europe and North America.

Mr. Takeuchi’s individual exhibition, edge, is scheduled to be held Sat. 15th May to Sun. 23rd May 2021.The stoneware on display will range from large items, to plates, and tea cups. In addition to this, there will be hollowed out items such as bowls and cups, too. If circumstances permit, there will also be a lecture using slides.The lecture will include talks on the creation process, overseas workshops and other content while looking at photos on the slides.
