個展 “空に編む”

九州を拠点に活動している陶芸家の山口博子さんの個展です。
熊本県の島、天草の海を故郷に持つ山口さんは、地元で採れる天草陶石を主に使用し、粘土を板状にし成形する「たたら作り」の技法で作陶しています。粘り気が少ない磁器粘土は成形がしにくい為、少しずつ撫でるように優しく時間をかけて制作しています。温かみのあるラインと磁器の凛とした質感が魅力です。のびやかな形の花器や器をどうぞご覧ください。

陶芸を始めたのは13年ほど前。 修業時代、仕事の合間に作業で出た粘土の端切れを曲げて形をつくったり積み重ねて形にする事が好きだった。 良くできたものはしばらく自分の作業台に飾っておいた。 しかし、焼いて完成させたところで誰かの手に渡る事も無いのだろうなとあきらめの気持ちで、一定の時が経つと自分で崩すようにしていた。
今回の展示に向け何を作ろうかと考えたとき、あれからずいぶんと時が経ち、あの時に自分の手で潰していたもの達がむくむくと浮かび上がってきた。
柔らかな磁土のピースを縦に、横に、つなぎ合わせひとつひとつ編んでゆく。
そこから生まれる不完全な形に夢中になる。

YAMAGUCHI Hiroko
Solo exhibition ”Knit into the sky”

This is a solo exhibition by YAMAGUCHI Hiroko, a ceramic artist based in Kyushu.
YAMAGUCHI, whose hometown is the sea of Amakusa, an island in Kumamoto Prefecture, mainly uses locally produced Amakusa pottery stone to make his pottery using the “tatara-zukuri” technique, in which clay is shaped into a sheet. Since porcelain clay has little stickiness and is difficult to shape, he works gently over time as if stroking the clay little by little. The warm lines and dignified texture of porcelain are appealing. Please take a look at the vases and bowls of various shapes and sizes.

I started making ceramics about 13 years ago. During my apprenticeship, I liked bending scraps of clay from my work in between jobs into shapes and piling them up to form a form. The pieces that turned out well were displayed on his workbench for a while. However, after a certain period of time, I would break them down myself with a feeling of resignation, thinking that they would never be passed on to someone else when I finished baking them.
When I thought about what I was going to make for this exhibition, I realized that a long time had passed since then, and the things I had crushed with my own hands at that time came to the surface.
I wove the pieces of soft porcelain clay vertically and horizontally, one by one, joining them together.
I am fascinated by the imperfect shapes that emerge.

その後夫と小代焼一先窯を動かしながら山口博子個人の作品を制作。主に九州にて活動。
2022年　　キムホノの研修生となる。
2023年　　工房を新たにし、今に至る。

2014年　　天草大陶磁器展グランプリ受賞
2015年　　天草大陶磁器展審査委員キム・ホノ賞受賞　
2019年　　天草大陶磁器展審査委員藤原惠洋賞受賞

Later, while working with her husband at the Ichisaki Kiln of Ojiro-yaki, Hiroko Yamaguchi produced her own works. Mainly works in Kyushu
