インドネシアに生息するバビルサは、牙が自らに向かって伸びることから「死を見つめる動物」とも呼ばれています。伸びれば伸びるほど、自身を危険へと近づけてしまうその姿。壺の口から今にもあふれ出しそうなハートと、わが身に迫る角、どちらが先に訪れるのか。恋愛に潜むジレンマを象徴するかのような作品です。

The babirusa, native to Indonesia, is sometimes called “the animal that faces death,” because its tusks grow toward its own face. The longer they grow, the more they bring the animal closer to danger. In this piece, a heart seems about to spill out from the vase’s opening, while the tusks loom threateningly— which will arrive first? The work evokes the dilemmas that lie at the heart of love.
