［混合技法（テンペラ・油樹脂絵具併用）］　
古代エトルリアの壁画を思わせる質感で、遠征中の王様（リチャード1世）が故郷を夢見る図像です。
テンペラで描いた部分を油絵の具で染めていくように描かれています。
額は、昭和期に日本の職人が制作した大地堂のもの。この金の輝きから、水箔が用いられたのではないかと思われます。瑪瑙で丹念に磨き上げることで、奥行きのある美しい光沢が生み出されています。絵画と額縁が一体となった重厚感あふれる作品です。

Mixed media (tempera and oil-resin paint)
With a surface reminiscent of ancient Etruscan wall paintings, this work depicts a king on campaign—Richard I—dreaming of his homeland.
Areas first rendered in tempera are subsequently glazed and suffused with oil paint, as if being gently stained with color.
The frame is a Daichidō piece made by Japanese craftsmen during the Shōwa period. Judging from the quality of its golden glow, it is likely finished with mizuhaku (water-applied gold leaf). Carefully burnished with an agate stone, the surface achieves a deep, lustrous sheen. It is a substantial work in which the painting and the frame are conceived as a single, unified whole.
