Jiro BANDO
Artist / Graphic Designer / Musician Graduated from the Department of Sculpture, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tama Art University

After studying sculpture and contemporary art at university, Bando made his debut as the original guitarist of the band Carnation. Following a period of solo live performances beginning in 2003, he has, since 2007, developed works in music and typography inspired by Buddhist scriptures and other religious texts.

Focusing on religious thought as a cultural foundation, his practice reinterprets symbols, objects of worship, and language through his own unique lens.

His typography has been highly acclaimed within the design field, leading to major logo commissions for clients such as Mitsukoshi Isetan and Nichiren-shu.

In 2021, he returned to sculpture, the discipline he studied at university. With the introduction of an electric kiln for ceramics, his practice has since shifted toward a more focused exploration of three-dimensional work.
