OKUMURA Dai
Born in Saitama Prefecture, Dai Okumura is currently based in Isumi, Chiba, where he works as an antique dealer and calligrapher. He is also a surfer and the leader of the contemporary antique collective “Tatami Antiques.”
In 2022, an encounter with a large quantity of old washi paper while sourcing antiques led him to begin creating calligraphic works. Using sumi ink on old washi paper, he creates works with a free and intuitive approach to brushwork.
SHIKAI Dai
Born in 1992 in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Dai Shikai began studying ceramics at the Tochigi Prefectural Ceramic Technology Support Center in 2017 and continued to develop his practice in Mashiko. He became independent in 2019 and is currently based in Mashiko, Tochigi Prefecture.
His process begins with searching for and digging his own clay. He forms his works using locally gathered raw clay and fires them primarily in wood-fired kilns, including anagama kilns. His work embraces the inherent qualities of the clay and the transformations brought about by flame and ash during firing.
