海岸に打ち上げられた石が、月の引力によって再び海へと引き戻される際に砂浜に残る痕跡をスケッチし、それを元に制作した木版画です。版木を電熱ペンで焦がしながら彫り、和紙にバレンで摺っています。茨城県常陸大宮市で生産される西ノ内和紙を使用しています。

“The stones on a gently sloping sandy beach tend to have their traces rounded by the sand. In this work, I expressed the way waves wash over them and let their shapes drift by moistening the washi paper from the reverse side.”(TANAKA Sho)

This woodblock print is based on sketches of the marks left on the shore when stones washed up onto the beach are pulled back into the sea by the moon’s gravitational force. The block was carved by burning and etching the wood with a heated pen, then hand-printed onto washi paper using a baren. Nishinouchi washi, produced in Hitachiōmiya City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is used for this work.
This is a one-of-a-kind piece.
