クスノキは大木へと育つ生命力を持ち、比較的加工しやすく、清々しい芳香を放つことから、古くより神聖な木として親しまれてきました。その性質を活かし、仏像をはじめとする数多くの彫刻にも用いられています。
本作は、そんなクスノキの豊かな存在感を活かして制作された作品です。
一見すると樽のようにも見える丸みを帯びたフォルムは、生命の始まりを象徴する「種子」をイメージしています。クスノキならではの美しい木目とほのかな香りも、この作品ならではの魅力です。

Camphor wood is known for its vigorous growth into large trees, its ease of carving, and its fresh, distinctive fragrance. Revered as a sacred wood in Japan since ancient times, it has long been used for Buddhist statues and other carved sculptures.
This work makes full use of the unique character of camphor wood. Its softly rounded, barrel-like form is inspired by a seed, symbolizing the origin of life. The beautiful grain and subtle natural fragrance of the wood further enhance the quiet presence and appeal of this piece.
