吉川和人 YOSHIKAWA Kazuto / YSK-10 栃のスツール

種子のかたちをイメージした樽型のスツールです。
スポルテッドの模様が豊かに現れた希少なトチの古木を使用しています。トチは本来、白く美しい木肌を持つ木ですが、ごく稀に菌の作用によって黒や茶色の繊細な筋模様が現れることがあります。この模様は海外では「スポルテッド（Spalted Wood）」と呼ばれ、その美しさからギターの前板やビリヤードキュー、ステッキ、釣り竿や玉網の柄など、高級木工品の装飾材として用いられています。
自然が長い時間をかけて描き出した唯一無二の表情を、そのまま作品へと生かしました。スツールとしてはもちろん、オブジェのような存在感を持つ作品として空間を豊かに彩ります。

A barrel-shaped stool inspired by the form of a seed.
Crafted from a rare piece of aged Japanese horse chestnut (Tochi) featuring richly figured spalted wood, this stool celebrates the beauty created by nature over time. Tochi is typically known for its pale, creamy white wood, but on rare occasions, fungal activity produces intricate dark lines and patterns known as spalting.
Highly prized for its distinctive appearance, spalted wood is often used as a decorative material for fine objects such as guitar tops, billiard cues, walking sticks, and the handles of fishing rods and landing nets. This work preserves and highlights those unique natural markings, allowing the character of the wood to become an integral part of the design.
Equally suited as a functional stool or as a sculptural object, it brings a quiet yet distinctive presence to any interior.
