トチの古木から制作したスツールです。
トチは本来、白く美しい木肌を持つ木ですが、ごく稀に菌の作用によって繊細な筋模様が現れます。この模様は海外で「スポルテッド（Spalted Wood）」と呼ばれ、その美しさからギターやビリヤードキュー、ステッキなどの高級木工品にも用いられる希少な材です。
本作品には、約30年前に伐採され、材木店で大切に保管されてきたトチ材を使用しています。スポルテッドの模様が豊かに現れた貴重な材を4つのパーツとして組み上げ、その個性を最大限に引き出しました。スツールとしての機能性とともに、自然が長い年月をかけて生み出した唯一無二の表情を楽しめる作品です。

This stool is crafted from aged Japanese horse chestnut (Tochi).
Tochi is naturally known for its pale, creamy white wood, but on rare occasions, fungal activity creates intricate dark lines and patterns. This distinctive figure is known internationally as spalted wood and is highly prized as a decorative material for fine woodworking, including guitar tops, billiard cues, walking sticks, and the handles of fishing rods and landing nets.
The wood used for this piece was harvested approximately 30 years ago and carefully stored at a lumber yard before being transformed into this work. Richly figured with exceptional spalting, the stool is constructed from four joined sections, showcasing the remarkable character of this rare material.
Both functional and sculptural, the piece celebrates the unique beauty that only time and nature can create.
